Edit: Announcement the Onion’s contained also the hint that these rules Grammar changed based on Old English are. In the comments found I a link to Karl Hagen’s medievalist (serious) description of syntactic differences between present-day English and Old English. Quite interesting since many of the used in Old English principles still in contemporary German exist.
